Race & Ethnicity

Race is a social construct that is not rooted in biology.  Even so, our society is still divided and segregated by racial lines. Please think about how racial divisions manifest themselves in our culture. If you had $1 billion dollars, what might you do to help eliminate racial divisions? 

When it comes to racial divisions, these things should not be taking lightly. Though we have the same basic gentic make-up, we homo-sapiens have many things in common but when it comes to a group of people who share many phyical traits sterotypes and generalizations are made about them creating division amoust the groups. 

It reminded me of what I read about teenage girls with body image issues. When it came to the girls who were born and rasied in an area that didn't have beauty standards that were based off of celebrities they didn't see have body issues. Once these girls were influenced by the beauty standards and the pressure to fit the standards is when the girls began to dislike their body. The reason why I brought this example up is because I believe that since race is itself a social construct then there is a way to undo what we created. 

If I had 1 billion dollars I would want to create an enviorment that would probably be an island, where we would have many families from different races come together to live in that island. I would try to start over with the people who live in the island. Where everyone can cooperate and work together. In a life like that I believe there wouldn't be any factions or divisions. They would all share the same beginning. They would learn and grow together. 

Out of all my ideas that I've come up with they all started with a "new beginning". It then dawned on me that I believe that this problem is so deeply rooted within us that I think to remove the problem would require a fresh start. I relaized the reason why I think this is because of the exmaples weve seen even in the very country we are in. We try and try to removed this rascial divisions but it is still a prevelent problem. So if I had one billion dollars I would try to help create a fresh start.

Where do you fit?

Based on the film "Unnatural Causes," please describe where you would fit on the ladder?       When it comes to the Unnatural Causes documentary, I realized that I need to take better care of my health, and I need to make sure I learn how to relieve my stress. I come from a low-income family. My mother is a single mother with two children, which I am the oldest of. I helped my mother raise my little brother. Even now, as a college student, my mother struggles a lot financially.
